South Africa has dedicated May as National Burns Awareness Month and focuses specifically between 5 th and 9 th of May, for National Burns Awareness Week. This provides an opportune time to raise awareness and educate people about burns and burn prevention.

Anti-Tobacco Campaign Awareness Month

In South Africa, Anti-Tobacco Campaign Month is observed in May, with World No Tobacco Day on May 31st. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking and tobacco use and promote quitting and healthier alternatives to smoking.

African Vaccination Week (AVW) is celebrated in the last week of April and annually across different countries.

Autism is described as a lifelong developmental disability which initially presents itself in infancy and early childhood and causes delays and challenges in many basic areas of development, such as social interaction and communication.

Understanding Malaria

According to the latest world malaria report, there were 263 million cases of malaria in 2023 compared to 252 million cases in 2022. The estimated number of malaria deaths recorded in 2023 was 597 000 compared to 600 000 in 2022.

TB Awareness Month & World TB Day

March is Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Month, and every year, we observe World TB Day on March 24 to raise awareness about the serious health, social, and economic impact of TB.

World Down Syndrome Day

Each year, on both World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) and National Down Syndrome Awareness Day (October 20), Down Syndrome South Africa (DSSA) works to raise awareness about key issues affecting individuals with Down syndrome.

World Glaucoma Week

World Glaucoma Week (WGW) takes place from March 9th to 15th this year. It is a global initiative jointly organized by the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association and has been successfully raising awareness for over a decade.

Pregnancy Awareness Week

The National Department of Health has dedicated 3 to 7 February 2025 for the purpose of pregnancy awareness. Pregnancy Awareness Week aims to strengthen education about pregnancy with the objective of promoting healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood..

STI/Condom Week

In South Africa, February is Sexual and Reproductive Health and Healthy Lifestyle Month. It includes STI/Condom Week, which will run from 3 to 7 February 2025.

National Epilepsy Week

In South Africa, National Epilepsy Week is commemorated on 10-16 February 2025, while International Epilepsy Day is observed on 10 February 2025. National Epilepsy Week provides an opportunity to strengthen the awareness of Epilepsy and seizures as well as break stigmas about the disorder.

Reproductive Health Month

Annually, February is observed as Reproductive Health Month in South Africa which is aimed at raising awareness about many fundamentally important issues surrounding reproductive health including understanding the difficulties couples and individuals encounter with reproductive health and infertility.

Diabetes Management

Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease characterised by high levels of blood glucose (blood sugar) which over time leads to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves.

Sun Smart Skincare – Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Skin cancer is the most common cancer worldwide and SA has one of the highest monitored ultraviolet (UV) levels in the world, resulting in one of the highest skin cancer rates globally.
